x-axis stopped working after two weeks.

Hi together,

so, I have my i3 MK3S for two weeks and have a printing time of almost 30 hours. Today my x-axis stopped working properly.

If I try to move the x-axis using the terminal, it only moves for about 3 cm. Also during normal prints the x-axis is not working properly.

Additional info about my last major print may be relevant to understand the problem:

I tried to print multiple elements of the same part and used the PrusaSlicer to do so. A mistake I later noticed, was, that I once put two times the same element at the same spot in the slicer.

During the print, the element in question developed in a really ugly way, with way too much filament used. I thought it does not matter, if only a single element has to be reprinted and let the job continue.

I in the end I noticed that that all the other thought to be good elements, developed well up to a certain height, but lost precision above that.

After some wondering and thinking I noticed, my error in the PrusaSlicer with the double placed element and tried the job anew.

The elements produced now made the printer seem to be cross-eyed: At certain values of the x-coordinate there was a soft shift in the printed objects of about 2mm.

I tried printing something else and encountered the same phenomenon. Afterwards I let the printer cool down and checked the cables. After powering up again I tried a "First-layer-calibration". It tried to drive in the lower border of the x-axis, tried to calibrate the 9 points on the heat bed, failed, and I aborted.

Afterwards I tried moving the axes by terminal an encountered the problem of the x-axis described in the beginning.

The belt seems fine to me, and the extruder can be used by hand like on the first day. No error has been noted by the printer.

Thank you for reading and thanks for any help.

Greetings,

Moritz

A small shift like 2mm is usually loose grub screws on the pulley where it fits to the motor shaft. When they are loose the pulley can move back and forth slightly. As they get looser the movement increases until the shaft spins freely. Check them. They need to be tightened in order. The first against the flat of the drive shaft and then the second one is tightened to lock it in place.

Drive gear pulleys MUST be tightened FLAT FIRST.  Loosen both set screws, locate the set screw on the flat, slowly tighten to spec. Then and only then tighten the locking set screw.  To remove the pulley, loosen the locking set screw first or you will strip the flat set screw.

ps: but then neo more or less said this.. oops.
