I would think this is a broken motor, broken cable or loose connector.

What happens when you switch the X and Y connectors on the Einsy board? If the problems stays with the same motor you need a new motor or try to fix that cable if you can find a problem there.

If the problems moves to the Y axis you have a problem with the Einsy board or the firmware.

OK.  What happens if you temporarily switch the connectors with one of the other steppers?  Test both.

Does the problem move with the motor, or stay with the connection/socket?

Hi all

Hopefully someone can help me. I have had my Mk3s for sometime and earlier this year I fitted a Raspberry Pi and Octoprint to it. Everything has worked fine until the fan I fitted to cool the Raspberry Pi became noisy.

The Raspberry Pi was fitted below the Einsy board using a new printed housing that I found on this site and was wired into the Einsy board. I took the Pi off including the wiring and when I powered back up the printer, everything seemed fine. I then tried to print a model and the X axis failed to home, it just moved a little and made clicky noises.

At first I thought it might be something to do with the belts but I couldn't find anything amiss. I then took the X axis motor  off and you can see the problem in the video. The motor is no longer working as it should. I have checked the plug and the wiring but can't see anything wrong.

Any thoughts from anyone would be much appreciated before I fit a new motor and Einsy board.

I see waiting for you posts to be approved mixed things up a bit.

Try switching the motors first and see what happens.

I will swap the plugs over on the motors as suggested and report back tomorrow.

I have swapped X and Y Axis connectors and the problem is transferred to the Y axis so the X axis motor is fine. 

Is there a driver on the board that can be swapped or do I need to replace the whole board?

If that motor is fine, you probably damaged the board some how. I would make sure there is nothing left of that raspi and fan that could some how short something out.

After that I would try reflashing the firmware, just in case. That takes little time and is the cheapest fix.

If that doesn't help I'm afraid you need a new board. I don't thing it will be easy to fix an Einsy board. But if you can see a burned part maybe you can identify it and replace it (let some one replace it.)

Ok thanks for confirming the diagnoses. I do have a replacement board (printer is a business machine and needs to be up and running) so I will check the existing board for burnt patches and then just replace the whole thing.
