Wax filament trouble - min temp limit?

I am new at this so forgive the obvious. I am trying to print with a machinable wax filament. It is asking for 150 / 90 nozzle and bed temp. I am using slicer prusa edition. I slice and export to sd and run off sd. The machine heats up runs the job as if all is well but the extruder does not run. if i go back to pla temp it will run fine. It is like the extruder has an underlying min temp limit on the nozzle before it will run.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

There is a min temp limit in firmware, I believe it is set at 200 deg.C

Re: Wax filament trouble - min temp limit?

There is a minimal temp for printing within the Firmware. It's a protection against cold extrusion (trying extrude filament without heating it could case damage to your printer / hotend).

I don't know what it is, it's definitely less than 200.

If you don't like to google or read through the Sourcecode -> Try to hook your printer up via USB and try different temps. and then try to extrude a little bit of filament. You can find the limit that way.

Or just wait... someone will know! 😉

Seems like you can set it yourself

http://marlinfw.org/docs/gcode/M302.html

So if you put a

M302 S150 ; only allow extrusion above 150

in your start g-code, you could add. But double check if you got your filament temps right!

This is supported in Prusa Gcode. Your syntax is correct. 🙂

I agree though, be careful with this gcode. It can make your printer unhappy.

What kind of wax filament are you using? I would like to get some, but I just can't accept paying ~50$/kg, for wax, when I can buy wax for under 5$/kg.

Hi, I'm Sean. I used to work on CNC machines.
I try to not make mistakes, but the decision is YOURS.
Please feel free to donate to my filament/maintance fund.
