Updaing firmware without a computer
I have a Mk3 on firmware 3.8.1. BUT: my laptop has died and I cannot get a computer anywhere near my printer. I'm guessing that I'm out of luck updating to 3.9.1 until I get a new one [what I'm doing now is "snearkernet"ing stuff to the printer from my SD card]. But I'll ask: is there some way to update the firmware from the SD card?

Simple answer is no.
RE: Updaing firmware without a computer
I would like to see the option to image the firmware from the SD card.
I've updated the firmware twice, once when it was very new, and again when I added the MMU2S, and in both cases I just 'sneakernetted' the whole printer into the range of a USB cable on the office peecee.
RE: Updaing firmware without a computer
It’s simply just not possible with the hardware in the mk3. For firmware update the boot loader does the task and that is tied to the USB port.
RE: Updaing firmware without a computer
Yep. Best you can do is a small portable computer - some people update their firmware with a pi, for example. The AVR architecture simply does not support this without adding a lot of overhead to the boot loader that the Einsy simply doesn't have the capacity for.
