Unknown USB device
I did my MK3S upgrade and now i need to do a firmware upgrade but i cant get the drivers to install correctly so there is no port assigned to my printer. I'm not sure what to try next. nothing seems to work. I have a new desktop windows 10 its up to date i tried the newest prusa software version and 2.5. any ideas would help. thanks
RE: Unknown USB device
Try doing the installation as an administrator - right click on the installation file then select Run as Administrator. Just a thought to try...

RE: Unknown USB device
Be careful that you get the right firmware, there a several posts by peeps with problems eventually chased down to wrong firmware.
RE: Unknown USB device
Running as admin didn't help and i can't even get the the firmware update part, but when i can ill make sure
RE: Unknown USB device
Are you getting any error messages during the install? What are the symtoms you are seeing? What does devicc manager tell you about the com ports?
Jerry
RE: Unknown USB device
no errors at all other than the device being unknown
it says "unknown usb device device descriptor request failed"
which i think is a generic windows driver issue
RE: Unknown USB device
Have you installed the Prusa Drivers and Apps? You cannot install firmware until you do.
Your original description lead me to believe that was where you were having issues. Now it sounds like you are trying to update the firmware but Windows does not understand anything about the device. Once you have installed the drivers, in Device Manager you should see Original Prusa i3 MK3 (COM ?) where ? is some comport number.

RE: Unknown USB device
The goal is to update the firmware.
the problem is that the computer doesn't see the printer. all i get is an unknown device in device manager.
i have the new apps and drivers downloaded and installed but nothing ive done has helped windows see the printer correctly. there is no port assigned since the device isn't installed correctly.
I just ordered a new board. there is nothing i can find thats helping me so a new board is the only other idea i could come up with. Thanks
RE: Unknown USB device
Hi Mike,
Have you tried deleting the Prusa sections in Windows10 Settings Apps and features
then re loading them?

@mike-s33
Doh!
Windows10 sometimes is a world of pain.
I bought a gaming laptop to get a discrete video card for some 3D modelling packages.... however I could never get them to work with the gaming laptop and win10, so that resides at home, largely unused
Best wishes,
Joan

RE: Unknown USB device
Have you tried either using the USB cable on another device or a different cable on the Prusa?
A different USB port on your computer?
Jerry
RE: Unknown USB device
Yes i have tried a windows 10 desktop and laptop and a windows 7 desktop with 3 different cables one of which is the original prusa cable that it used to work with.
RE: Unknown USB device
With all the new info it really does point to the board as being the problem. A final thought, have you tried a full reset?
Good luck!
