RE: Thermal anomaly

which firmware does it have?
Latest firmware is 3.13.1
Might be worth flashing the latest firmware and calibrating it, as per normal.

RE: Thermal anomaly

I'm going to assume that you are referring to me? if so, I will try that tomorrow. However, should that make a difference when the only thing that has changed is the printers location? from his home to mine?

RE: Thermal anomaly

We don't know if the previous owner is telling the truth, and it's unlikely that they will give you a refund. If the firmware is not up to date you could  be chasing a bug, in old firmware.
By upgrading to the latest, you should eradicate any earlier bugs.

hopefully that will get you going.

alternatively you could try down grading to 3.11 firmware, before thermal anomaly was introduced...

RE: Thermal anomaly

Looks like I am downgrading the firmware.

Is this the only solution?
I get constant MINTEMP errors after I went from 3.10 to 3.13. The printer is doing nothing. Just sitting idle, not heating anything, not printing. But it's in a cool basement and so it thinks something is wrong, shuts down, and emits a loud, annoying, continuous beep.

RE: Thermal anomaly

Here is my update.  I down graded to 11 and things worked for a while. Then started getting the same problem. So I tested the hot end's temp and found that my printer screen showed 255 degrees (printing with ABS) but the reading I got when checking the hotted was only 110.  That also fluctuated a lot each time I checked it. So-out comes the spare parts and I replace the hot end with a new one.  The problem stoped. While changing the hot end I checked all connections and found 2 that were a little loose and tightened those up. Printed for a while in11 and no problems. I have now flashed to 13 and so far I am having great success.  Thanks for all the input.

RE: Thermal anomaly

I was wrong. Downgrading the firmware was only a bandaid to let me print a couple more times, but eventually I did have a thermal runaway and I just replaced the whole headend/thermister.

Hi again! I have updated the firmware, in addition to replacing both thermistors. Now it says its not connected 😟

So a big problem with Revos are the inline connector. They don't have strain relief and fail if flexed too much. I have three machines running Revo and have had to remove the connector and solder the thermistor on all of them. I think this is what you have.

Excellent answer! The same poor connection that is tolerated by one firmware version might break another.

All connectors have resistance, but poor connections have more resistance. A new firmware might be more picky about tolerances. So new software could cause good components to seem bad.

RE: Thermal anomaly

Hi! after having the same problem I found out that I only needed to replace the Fuses, I replaced the 15amp and the two 5 amp. And started to work with no issues so far. I believe it might be a problem with the release of energy from the programming update of the firmware that burn the fuses.

I hope this helps! 🙂

My printer said firmware upgrade available.  So I did it!  WRONG!  Now the Printer will not print and shuts down with thermal anomaly!  Went back to previous firmware 3.11 Now I get a nozzle is different than g code.  I have the option to continue anyway. So I continue.  NO JOY!  Printer tries but does not print correctly.  The filament comes out very very thin and makes a mess.  The printer MK3s worked fine for years with out any issues until this firmware upgrade thing.  I am going to try an earler firmware that worked before.

What is "Revo"?

RE:

Revo is a hotend. For the quickswap version of it, the nozzle, heat-block, and heat-break are a single solid piece as opposed to prusa's having individual components for each. For those that have problems after changing nozzle size, I would highly recommend getting one. If you don't know how to properly tighten a nozzle to the heat-break (not the heat block), then you will have issues with filament oozing out between the gap you created due to insufficient tightening. This takes some knowledge and experience to learn, and it is also a pain in the ass with the way Prusa has their components arranged - spacing is tight, parts dangle by wires, etc. Not to mention, it is best to do that while the nozzle is at a high temp (280 C due to expanding nature of materials under heat).

All in all, I would recommend getting a Revo and looking into it. It eleminates gap-ozzing and makes changing nozzles a breeze; they (nozzle changes) are done when the nozzle is cool, not hot unlike Prusa setup.

Mine is stock and doing the same thing. Also mine is doing a color change during the bed leveling? Strange...

You don't have to do that, just deactivate the defective "thermal model" code introduced in 3.12.  Its easy, connect your computer to the printer and send a M310 S0 command then a M500 command. You can put it in starting GCODE as well.  I do that with the latest firmware (3.14 I think) and no problem at all.
