T1 tool-change on a single-extruder, non-MMU MK3S+?

How does the MK3S+ without the MMU-upgrade handle a T1 command in the gcode?

I have a couple of prints where I'd like to print part of the object in a flexible filament and a part of it in PLA and I figured I can get the Slic3r itself to produce a multi-material result by settings extruders to 2 and toggling the "Single extruder multi material" checkbox in the printer settings. Alas, it produces a T1 command instead of e.g. an M600 and I have no idea if it'd work correctly or not.

I could just try with some test-print, but before wasting time and filament, I figured I'd ask here first. There must be someone here who has already done this and knows whether this works or not.

I've done a lot of multi-color prints without an MMU, and you're doing the right thing. Just create a custom printer profile starting from the Mk3S+ Multi-Extruder stock profile and set extruders to 2. I have NOT tried different materials though. For me, the GCODE will contain the M600 AND the T1 command, so it will trigger proper unload/reload. In fact, it will insert a superfluous M600 at the beginning that will just unload the material you just loaded before starting the print, so I remove that one manually from the GCODE. I can upload my custom printer profile if you like, but this should be straightforward.
