support enforcer vertical extent not honored

I've been playing with support modifiers in the 1.42.0-alpha4 release, and I have discovered that the slicer doesn't honor the vertical extent of the support enforcer shape. I have a tall, thin object and I want supports only at the bottom and the top, but not in the middle. I created two cylindrical support enforcers and placed one around the bottom area, and one around the top, but the slicer still creates supports for the middle section. After playing around for a while I discovered that it is only the horizontal extent of the support enforcer that matters; if any part of either support enforcer cylinder interacts with the model, then supports are generated for the full height of the model, for the part of the model that is in the same vertical column as any part of the support enforcer. There is apparently no way to enforce supports in one vertical section of a model without also enforcing it for ALL vertical sections of the model, at least those sections that are within the horizontal extents of the support enhancer shape.

If you are interested, the model I'm trying to print is the 'Toothpaste_lock_spring_pin.stl' file from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:776031 . I want supports only in the lower part (the spring section) and the upper part, but not in the area of the vertical slot for the toothpaste tube. If anyone can tell me how to accomplish this (without printing the model horizontally), I would appreciate it.

TIA,

Frank
