Still pretty new at 3d printing only having my Mk3 for about a month now. I've already printed a complete set of PETG parts but I want to start sourcing quality replacements for the rest of the machine. I see tons of cheap hotends and probes on eBay, Amazon and Aliexpress but I want to make sure I'm at least replacing the parts with pieces equal to or better then what's included in the kit.
What should I look for when sourcing these parts? Any specific brands to look for? Sources that offer quality replacements over cheap knock off's?

until I have reasons to "upgrade" something
ill just stick with buying from prusa

You can get a lot of spare and upgrade parts from e3D. If they don't have the part I'm looking for, I usually fall back to Prusas part store (login required).

It's like buying a new car and one month later starting to buy replacement parts from third party sellers. Why?
But maybe it's because most of the people are claiming to get better print results because they changed part X. Nobody likes to admit that the time and money is wasted.
As long as your printer is inside a warranty, I wouldn't recommend to get or replace parts "just because".

there are a few upgrades you could consider
Multi Material
Different nozzle ( size 0.1,0.2,0.6,0.8 / wear resistant )
I have the ruby nozzle installed for abrasive printing. and printed a few extra parts like filament guide, drawers, replacement fan shrout etc
unless you want to print with a very large nozzle , your hotend etc is already top of the line ( E3d)

As long as your printer is inside a warranty, I wouldn't recommend to get or replace parts "just because".
I'm not sure about that.
I'm still in warranty, but have purchased a replacement part fan, Pinda probe, extruder springs, thermistor, heater and a few other items.
I've had a part fan fail. Prusa replaced it , but it took a week from failure to replacement.
If the replacement fan fails, I'll still get a another fan, but I won't not print for that week.
There are consumables to the printer, and not just filament. Your printer will break. You can be prepared for most of it., if you want. You can also just react.

Agree. But it's also about money. Things under warranty costs you only downtime.
I'm also putting always some more stuff in my basket, if I have to purchase something from PR.
