Smooth Rod Maintenance
For lubing the smooth rods do you guys use the lithium grease or oil? I have the grease packed into the bearings and was wondering about minor maintenance on the rods.
Also, the lead screws? I know you’re not supposed to lube those but should I be cleaning those during maintenance with like a brush?
RE: Smooth Rod Maintenance
I use White lithium grease NLGI #2 on the rods & lead screws very thin coatings during maintenance. About once a month (sometimes more with High usage) I tend to clean the older grease off as it builds up at the ends and collects dirt. 4+ years almost 5 in, no issues on my oldest Prusa.

The leadscrew spindles don't require lubrication, as the trapezoidal nuts are self-lubricating. If you want to lubricate, a fluid containing PTFE would be a good choice. Occasional cleaning with a nylonbrush and lint-free cloth cannot do any harm.
