SD Card incompatiblity-Alternatives?

This actually isn't something wrong with the printer, but there is no compatible slot on my new laptop for the Prusa SD card. It can fit a small SD card, however.

With this in mind, what is the best alternative? Should I just set-up octoprint to do wireless transmission of g-code files?

My laptop doesn't even have a Micro SD slot... using an SD adapter dongle is a pain in the backside. so I set up Octoprint.

my previous laptop did have a Micro SD Slot, and for a while I used a microSD to SD Card adapter in the Printer... that was workable but awkward.

regards Joan

Hi @matt-l:

The simplest & quickest solution is probably to get a micro sd card with an adapter. You can use the slot in your laptop to write to the micro card then put it into the full size sd adapter to plug into the printer’s full size sd card slot.

Here’s an example;

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSDHC-Standard-Packaging-SDSQUNC-032G-GN6MA/dp/B010Q57T02/ref=asc_df_B010Q57T02/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198138936631&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12784525129691705309&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003976&hvtargid=pla-501748979992&psc=1

Not shilling for Amazon or SanDisk. Although I have had very good luck with SanDisk cards.

A cheap and easy solution, at least to get you started. I started with the sd card interface but quickly got tired of shuffling cards back and forth. I bought a raspberry pi and installed octoprint and it does save some steps. Worth considering long term but a bit of an effort to set up, at least for me.

I have several computers, some have Card readers and some don't. I bought one of these for $20 and its been working great for years.

I use it for my DSLR cameras as well.

I actually got one of these, which works well with my comp, but Prusa doesn't seem to recognize it. It's the right format (FAT32).

There are multiple users here talking about multiple products. It would be more effective communication to mention who your addressing (if not everyone) and what (one of these) might be.

Sorry, meant to quote this post. I got the micro-SD+adapter, but Prusa doesn't recognize it.

Be sure you’re writing gcode files only to the card.

Seems obvious but I have copied a 3mf or other format file to the SD card by mistake and then scratched my head when the printer didn’t ”see” the file. Put the card back in my laptop to check the file copied okay and d’oh!

Good call. That was the issue. Thanks!
