Prusa MK3 Printing at .3

Hello, great forum.

I would like to print with my MK3, at .30 Print Settings.
Within the pre-settings I could not find it, as they go only to .20

I do not want to change anything and the ruin the presets.

My needs are for an outdoor print that does not require fine or detailed as precise as .20

Are there any specific changes I need to do besides setting the layer at .30?

Thank you.

Re: Prusa MK3 Printing at .3

Hi, it looks like the 0.35 print has been replaced with the 0.20 FAST on the MK3.
My guess is that since the MK3 can run speeds faster than the MK2 so the 0.35 is no longer needed.
Just slice the model in the 0.20 normal settings then in 0.20 FAST and see what the time estimate difference is in Slic3r PE

I would also look into the 0.6mm nozzle and check your print time with it running on the 0.20 FAST,
I use the 0.60 nozzle when I am doing larger prints and it reduces the print time enough to make it worth my time and still maintains the print quality and detail I want .
In fact I use the 0.6mm more than the 0.4mm, the only time I use the 0.4mm is when I am running small parts.

Great idea and recommendation.

I will order a .6 nozzle.

May I ask you, when you switch to .6 nozzle, coming from the default .4 nozzle, what settings have you changed in your slicer?

I started 3D printing with S3D, but now with the Prusa MK3, I have been using slicer and prusa control, with very good results.

Thank you for your reply.

In Slic3r PE or Prusa Control just switch to the printer setting that has the 0.6mm nozzle then just select material and layer height like normal the slicer will do the rest. they have default settings for the 0.6mm nozzle already.

If you have the latest Slic3r PE the just go to the top and select "Configuration/ Configuration Wizard" and add the 0.6mm nozzle via the check box this will add all the settings for the nozzle, just be sure its for the MK3.

Here is the link on changing the Nozzle, I couldnt find the one for the MK3,

The biggest mistake people make from what I have seen is not pre-heating the nozzle which is shown in the first step which is a must.
Personally I dont take the fan or the block off,
I just take off the fan shroud and use a socket & ratchet on the nozzle and hold the heating block with the wrench. but this is just my method.

It shouldn't take much effort to remove it or put it on.
Keep in mind the nozzle will be HOT so I would use the pliers when handling it.

After you replace the nozzle then dont forget to set "Live-Z" to "Zero" "0.00" and re run the "First Layer calibration again.

Also if you are planning on running in the future Filament such as Glow in the dark, Carbon Fiber etc then you will need the hardened nozzle as the materials are abrasive and will damage the brass nozzles.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
