Prusa i3 MK3 problems X axis looses location; knob has no effect on nozzle height during nozzle z height calibration
I have a MK3 i3 from a kit and it worked great for a year until I plugged the nozzle and had to take the print head apart to replace a few things. Now that it's back together; during xyz calibration after it finds the 9 locations when returning to home the x motor buzzes for a bit and it loses where home is on x axis. This is intermittent. When I do make it through the 9 point calibration and try to set the z nozzle height, rotating the knob which is supposed to raise and lower the print head, does not. The knob works as expected at all other times. And often times when it is trying to print the grid pattern for setting the nozzle height, it loses location and runs into the right side. Is this a software issue? It almost seems like the stepper motor speed setting is just at the edge of being out of whack. The steppers on all axes and the print head work fine most of the time. Maybe either the bit rate, step size or something else is going wrong intermittently because it randomly loses home location? Would it help to reload the main program?
Also, I've lost my original memory card that came with the printer. How can I obtain another one of those for my machine? Thanks in advance for any and all help! Right now my printer is worthless and I need it!
That sounds more like a loose connection or broken-but-just-touching wire. Go round them all and make certain you didn't loosen one when working next to it.
Work around the extruder can be hard on the wiring...
Almost all SD cards work with the printer, I generally have two on the go so that I can be copying files ready for the next print while the current one is still finishing.
Cheerio,
RE: Prusa i3 MK3 problems X axis looses location; knob has no effect on nozzle height during nozzle z height calibration
Thanks for the response. I found that the x axis linear slides were binding. So, I added a small amount of lubricant to the slides on all 3 axes after cleaning them. This cleared up the problem. I did get the nozzle height setting as well, finally. I found in the Prusa information that the setting for the nozzle height and be from -.400 to -.1500 or therabouts. Mine ended up being set at -.717. I didn't realize how small the movement was on the z adjustment. Without the further information it seemed like the nozzle wasn't moving at all. However, it was-- just very tiny movements.
Regarding the memory card, the card that came with my machine had files on it. I'd like to get those files and I'm not sure where to find them or buy a replacement memory card
Thanks for the help. I went through and checked all of the wiring as you suggested. I think I'm good to go now. Thanks again.

You'll find SD cards wherever digital cameras are sold, don't get one bigger than 32GB: 4 - 8 GB is plenty.
