@tim-2

There are worse kinds of double taps - think the mob.  The Geneva Convention made it a war crime to double-tap so shoot three times.

...I aborted the print and did a complete calibration, the one where it forces the Z to bang into the top and then jukes around a bit.

After the re-cal it went back to the no double taps at PLA temperature but one (sometimes two) at ABS temperature.

Hey, that worked! I did the XYZ calibration over again, and now there's no more double tap.

Thanks!

@jsw

Thanks.  That solved mine also.  Only my MK3S seemed to double-tap and now none of them do so.  I will check ABS on my next print.

First thing I tried when it started on my MK3 was reset to factory, then re-run all install preflight adjustments including self test and XYZ before looking any further into my double tapping, this did not fix it.

Printer was on the same stable platform as it still is now, only other things I changed were those that resolved the issue, that was bed level to within .02, and readjustment of bearing clips and rod parallel.

Has not done it again since and the change was instant, before these adjustments would do it pretty much every time a bed level was ran, either manually, or at start of print.  As I say though, this only started after about a month.

Suppose there could be many causes of this, but that was my experience.

Tank you very much!

Adjust rods and bearing clips? I don't see anything to adjust, they're fixed in place. I haven't touched the rod mounting points or bearing clips since the printer was assembled in 2019. The only thing I've ever done to the rods was rub some a bit of grease on them.

XYZ calibration fixed the double tap. Why it started double tapping to begin with, I'll probably never know. Probably normal wear and tear? I did tighten the Y belt about a half-turn about the time double-tapping started, but I have no idea if there's a connection.
