Print head "crahses" during print, axis hard to move, not a belt issue
Hi, I have an original MK3s, worked good so far for a year.
During the latest weeks, however, a lot of times the print head "crahses" during print. Lot of noise, " crash happened" on the LCD.
It seems the issue is that the X axis is very hard to move, especially in the left area of the build zone. If I run the belt test, it says "belt distance not correct."
I think because the stepper drivers sees very high resistance to move, and it thinks it is because it has reached the home position (but it hasn't).
I tried tightening all the belts, but have not solved the issue. I noticed, however, that if i loosen the grubs on the pulley, the axis movement is super smoooth.
I have no idea now, how to fix the issue. Any help?

if you unscrew the X motor from the frame, and unloop the belt, is the X motor very stiff to turn?
You may have a faulty motor
prusa chat may be able to help, if the printer is actually less than a year old otherwise it may be time to buy a new motor...
If prusa are unwilling to help, I would open the motor housing and check for bad bearings.

How do the guide shafts and linear bearings look?Are the components lubricated and undamaged (without scratches and free from rust).

Hi, seems you were correct - I had a very similar Nema 17 motor, same size, I tried to remove the old one (that was quite hard to rotate even when removed, indeed) and put this, and now the issue seems gone.
Quite strange that after a year one stepper motor has issues already, anyway, I have several 3d printers, including also Zortrax M200 that is 7 years old, never had steeper motor issues.

Unfortunately faults occasionally happen.
Could have been just one duff ball, in the ball races.... you could probably open the motor, identify the problem, and if it's a ball race, replace the defective ballrace.

I have mounted Moons steppers on my printers and CNC milling machine. Some have been running faultlessly for 30 years. There can always be faulty batches, but this is extremely rare with Moons. Unfortunately, the motors are expensive in Europe and difficult to purchase. I have ordered mine directly from Japan.
