print from Computer to i3 mk3

I just put together the i3 mk3.  It's epic!

I was able to print, but I wold like to print directly from a computer (Debian 11)

I have installed  PrusaClicer-2.4.2 Linux

I used to use Cura to print to a TAZ .

Thanks.

There's also an official solution from Prusa currently in beta: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusa-connect-prusalink/  It's designed to work with Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W but there's also an unsupported way of running it on general Linux.

As much as I've loved to be a Prusa fanboy and jump on the Prusaconnect bandwagon, it is still ways away from Octoprint, which I believe is the more reliable and powerful option at this point.

Fair enough, although I'm experiencing 100% reliability since I've gone ahead with my little mod that helps with cooling/EMI issues. I have only one printer but use PrusaConnect on it exclusively. Didn't really try Octoprint; I've even prepared a VM for it and set everything up but ended up not feeling the need for it. Granted, I don't use/need a camera feed.

Thank you.  It appears this software only works on OSX and Windows.

I am using Debian 11 (Linux) right now.  I could use Window but I'd rather not.

Octoprint is the way to go.  You set it up on a Pi to run your printer, and then you are effectively printing from your computer using the web interface.  I believe it is possible to set up Prusaslicer to load directly to Octoprint and have the latter start the print automatically, but I have had no reason to try this.  I set up Octoprint on my printers mainly as a way to run webcams for monitoring, but it's a pretty handy way to operate the printers even if I am not using most of the features.

This is the whole reason I use Octoprint, without the automatic printing part.

My Octoprint server is on the same Wi-Fi network as my MacBook running PrusaSlicer. The ability to slice and wirelessly upload the files, including thumbnail images, directly to the Octoprint server is killer.

The gcode files are offloaded to the SD card on the Pi so your computer is freed up for other tasks and you can monitor the print’s progress via the Octoprint web interface.

I don’t use the camera functions in Octoprint and not I’m sure I will. I have a ‘Ring’ camera system for security and use an indoor cam to keep an eye on my prints. It seems to work for my purposes and I’m already using the app so it was easy to integrate into my printing routine.

I wasn’t really sure how much I’d use Octoprint at first and bought the Raspberry Pi more as a curiosity and something new to learn with Octoprint being my excuse to do so. But I have to say I really like it and have become pretty dependent on it over time. I also get a ton of use out of the ArcWelder plug-in. Brilliant piece of software!

For anyone on the fence or looking for a ‘print direct from computer solution,’ I highly recommend a Raspberry Pi and Octoprint. And I’m not using a fraction of its capabilities!

Cheers

Yupper.  Octoprint on a pi (if you can find one) for the win. If you want to fire and forget a print, it is really your only choice. Proper tools is everything in my business, and Octoprint is a seriously proper tool.  Gina is running at full steam. Nice.
