Not printing and unusual X axis shift after latest firmware upgrade 3.9.3 1.0.6

Hi, I have a MK3 that was upgraded to a Mk3s with an MMU2s fitted. Things have been has sweet and dandy as they can be with the MMU setup but yesterday I got the message to upgrade the firmware so I did so. Now when doing the 9 point level check the machine seems to check points that are around 30mm to the left of where they should be on the print surface. When it completes the 9 points, instead of purging the nozzle along the front of the print surface, it just sits in the left hand front corner and extrudes a pea-sized blob and does not move any further.

I have tried re-slicing the part in MMU2 single and MMU multi colour, I have tried setting the part to MMU (not 2) and Mk3 (not s) and still same problem.

It seems that since i applied the firmware update my life has become miserable.

Now i'm unsure what firmware i had on there before.... Is there a way to find out the previous list of versions so that I can flash it back with the old firmware?

Any clues to what is wrong from the unusual X axis shift of 30mm?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

jerry

Quite likely you loaded the wrong firmware (there are versions for each model and configuration of Mk3).  Go back and doublecheck what you flashed, and try again. And if that fails, flash the version the printer came with (oops - you never wrote that down). You don't always need to be on the latest rev.

Yep i did double check, but I did not roll back the firmware, so i will do this tonight and see if that gets things working again. I noticed in the firmware ZIP that there is a generic MK3S_3_9_3_3556.hex file (which i applied) and an MMU2 board  file (which my display says is already at that version) so I only applied the 3_9_3_3556 hex file and not the MMU2 file assuming there was no need.

@decotopian

I have to love these simple solutions.

The MMU is a great idea, conceptually. I avoided that pitfall by reading the forums before purchasing one. There seems to be some magic required to make them work reliably; an aspect of adjustment that can't be put down on paper. Perhaps if a person understands every aspect that goes into printing - from filament end shape and stringing to retraction variables and material hardness and even so far as knowing the code and how to change firmware constants - the MMU can work as expected. But you need to be expert level in all of this before considering the thing -- and at that point, it can be a bargain.

Also - you aren't the first to find this solution.

Yep sadly its true - it just works perfectly now and I agree entirely who has time to tweak parameters right down to code level.... a more robust solution is needed for an 'off the shelf' product such as this.

Someone mentioned to me the other day about a MMU type product that somehow spliced/fused  the next filament to the current in order to maintain continuity of feed and reduce wipe tower size. I haven't investigated yet.... like the death of a beloved pet or relationship break-up .... it will take time for me to be emotionally balanced enough to re-engage with MMU type technology 🙂

The splicer widget looks interesting; especially the pro. Much more professional looking than the Prusa product. But it looks like it wastes more filament than the mmu. Purging colors from the nozzle is the problem, especially black to white. The thing provides adjustments to help minimize waste, but you have to tune it - and not sure you can save a profile for general use. I'd think it does, but the info isn't clear.
