More unexpected slicing results

I am trying to print the power supply air conveyor - Prusa mk3 black psu air conveyor | PrusaPrinters

I have cut the model to make it easier to print using 3d builder - you can see the results of that here in the PS preview - shown as I hoped it would print.

Then I click "slice now" - and bizarre things happen to the sliced model.  First, the shape of the model changes completely.  What were smooth sides on the main box are now very different - a big ridge in the side.  Additionally, at that ridge down, the previously hollow part is now solid filled.  That won't make a very good air tunnel, so I am at a standstill on this print.

I can see getting a faulty model.  What I have not seen until this week are two instances where the prusa slicer post-slicing output is just wrong.

Please zip and upload the 3mf file you're using. I downloaded the model, cut it, and sliced it, no problem, so there's something in your specific settings.

I have found that if I cut this into parts inside of prusa slicer, I get a good slice.  If I slice with the 3d builder "Split" function, everything looks good, but PS then mangles it on slice.  Heres the file that doesn't slice correctly.  The parts were split out using the microsoft 3dbuilder program.

Okay, not sure what's going on...

It's not showing any errors in Prusaslicer but I exported the larger component and loaded it into netfabb. No errors again. I ran a repair anyway, exported it, and now it works fine in Prusaslicer. It does show with 6 facets less than the original.

Interestingly, now if I load the 3mf with the original *and* the fixed version, the original now throws 12 errors... Why it didn't show them before, I don't know. 

I guess you can't blame PS for slicing errors in this case, only for not correctly reporting an issue with the model. I'd put the blame with 3dbuilder.

In any case, here's the fixed 3mf

Thanks.  I was able to move ahead by loading the original shape into PS and using the CUT tool within the slicer.  Sliced it at the exact same place as I had with 3dbuilder - but it sliced perfectly - so something bobbled in the split operation.  I've got it printing now - by cutting it where I did, I am able to vase print both parts, and the plan is join them back together later.  Should shave 8 hours off of the print-original-with-supports.  For an air dam, a vase print should be fine.

Glad to worked it out!

Not sure what the point of the model is though, I admit. I keep the PSU inside the enclosure for my Mk3S, and I've been printing for months, almost 24 x 7, no problem. Even printing PC Blend, ABS, etc, the highest temperature the thermometer I put inside the enclosure ever measured was 37 Celsius.

It's probably just a tinkering thing.  I saw it - 12 hour print, lots of support needed - can I make it in fewer hours?  No support?  Vase mode?  I like vase mode for tinkering prints - they don't eat up a lot of filament.  In the original print, a third of a spool of filament would be used.  It's all good learning experience.  Even the wackiness with the slicer - all learning the ins and outs so some day I can do this better. Anyway, thanks again for your help

Looking at the picture in post #6, I'm pretty sure you could print in normal (not vase) mode in that orientation without support (except a brim).

And as far as tinkering is concerned, this is a great example of the value of swapping nozzles. With a 0.6 mm nozzle and 0.35 mm layer height, zero infill, it's down to 6.5 h.
