MK3S stops early into prints  

MK3S stops early into prints

Hello, I have a MK3s that stops printing at the 1st or 2nd layer, just a few minutes into each print.  It simply stops, no message on screen, the extruder and build plate cool when this happens however the nozzle stays where it last was (against the 1st or 2nd layer it was printing).  It appears to just pause, but the display goes back to the default (as if nothing is printing). The printer does not pick up where it left off (have waited hours).

I have run the self test successfully, recalibrated it, replaced the nozzle, and performed a few cold pulls.
I have verified belt tension
I have used many different PLA spools with the same results.
The last good print I had was using hatchbox wood pla - this is the only wood pla print I have ever made.  It was successful but was a bit stringy, and so I had begun adjusting retraction in slic3r.  I originally thought the pla or retraction settings may have caused this issue, but the extruder works and even the demo models print fine.  Also the cold pull comes out clean.

More details:

Stop print is an option when this happens, when I select it the z axis moves up a few CM
I am able to reset the printer and try again with the same results (it boots up fine)
I have the same results with gcode I have just created in slic3r, as well as the gcode models that came pre-installed on the SD card (it's not the gcode)
No errors or crashes show up in fail stats.
Power cord is in firmly, nothing loose.
Total print time 144d
Firmware: 3.7.2-2363
Machine was purchased as MK3 and upgraded to MK3S.  It's been running flawlessly until now.

I can't figure this out. Not sure what to do short of taking it apart.
