MK3S+ Red vs Black IR Filament Sensor

Hey everyone,

I would like to upgrade my MK3S to an MK3S+, but instead of purchasing the items as a kit, I would like to purchase the individual parts and do the upgrade. The reason why I am choosing to go this route is because I am in Canada, and the kit is a fair bit more than buying the parts individually. I have found a source for the new PTFE tube, the SuperPinda and the Y Axis Bearings Clips. The only thing I cannot find is the new Red IR filament sensor.

Is it wise to do the upgrade using the old Black IR filament sensor? The dimensions look the same, but would it give me problems with the upgrade if I stick with it instead of the new one? I could not really find what exactly is "upgraded", so I am asking here instead.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Where did you find the bearing clips and how much? Are they actual PR clips or from someone else?

MK3S+ upgrade kit was intended to upgrade the MK3 if you are adding a MMU2S to your printer.

The quote below is from the order page of the MK3S+ upgrade kit.

You will need this upgrade in case you are using MK3 and planning to buy the MMU2S.

Otherwise, if your MK3/S runs without any issues, you will not gain any significant printing quality improvements.

That being said, Your existing black filament sensor and PINDA work fine withe upgraded printed parts for the MK3S to MK3S+.

RE: Y Axis Clips

Voxelfactory in Montreal sells them, for a pretty great price as well. I think they only sell genuine Prusa parts:

They are an Authorized Dealer for PR and they stock a large number of spare parts as well. They indicate the vendor for all their parts, so you know you are getting genuine parts.Interesting note: They can provide you with warranty parts if you chat with Prusa support and PR says it is warranty part. You just need to provide a copy of the chat. PR does the troubleshooting and VoxelFactory supplies the part. Beats waiting for  stuff from overseas and possible customs issues. They have MK3S+ on sale (rising C$):

Vendor: Prusa Research Burnaby Store:15 St-Hubert Store:64

So if you want one, you can order if tomorrow and pick it up in the afternoon if you live close enough. That is how I got both of my MK3S. Very nice and knowledgeable people in Burnaby store. They also carry printers that are out of my price range like Ultimaker, Sinterit, 3DP and Mosaic Manufacturing.

Nice thing about them being Authorized, they don't pay retail when they order from PR. Well worth checking out if you live in Canada.
