MK3S calibrates several times in the middle of prints.
I have noticed that my MK3S randomly calibrates itself back to auto-home in the middle of the print. Sometimes it does it several times in just a few minutes. It goes back to printing normally shortly afterward, but I was just wondering why it does that, if that is a sign of some problems with the printer, and what I can do to fix it (if it is, in fact, a problem).
What does the crash report (in the LCD menu) say?
Cheerio,
If printer hits something (or thinks the printer does) , the printer moves away and tries to start again.
On screen you should see it, and there is a counter inside the printer.
Look if printer is hitting model, clean rods, and put thin oil on rods, maintenance you need to do every few rolls of filament.
Make a movie could help the forum.
my last print had 20 Y-axis crashes.
thanks
OK, so the issue is with the Y axis:
First, with the power off, move the axis by hand; is is smooth? Does the resistance stay the same over the whole range?
Clean and lubricate the smooth rods, check they are not damaged/scratched. Check the idler pulley is not clogged, out of line, or damaged (loosen the belt and try turning it with your fingertip, is it smooth?)
If this is a new build check you have mounted the Y axis bearings correcty, step 20 onwards on https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/2-y-axis-assembly_165795
With the belt loose try turning the stepper motor by hand; is is smooth?
Retighten the belt until it just begins to make a low musical note when plucked...
If the printer works, make your next print this:
https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/46639-tension-meter-for-the-gt2-belts-of-i3-mk3s-or-prus
It MUST be printed in Prusament PETG or the spring tension will be wrong.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheerio,
