MK3 wont restart after filament outage

My MK3 (S upgrade) stopped in the middle of a 4 hr print when the filament ran out.  There was no way to restart the print with new filament, there was no menu item.

Is there something in settings I don’t have right?

Under Settings menu, check that Filament sensor is On and F.autoload is On.

I have never been able to get filament autoload to work.  It just sits there, even when the temps are up.  Just tried a print from beginning. Stuck the filament in, pressed autoload and waited.  Extruder & bed heated up and it started the print process - with no filament feed.  The filament was still where I stuck it in.  I had to kill the print, turn off autoload, load the filament, then restart the print.

Whats missing?
