MINTEMP

Please help
I had problems with the hotend. Ordered a complete new one including heat tube, nozzle and heat sensor. I have still a error message "MINTEMP". Can anyone please tell me what to do or how to solve the problem. Thanks in advance.

Re: MINTEMP

assuming the ambient temperature where you are, is not at or below 15 centigrade, the mintemp error is usually caused by a faulty thermistor, or a wiring error on the thermistor

while you are waiting,

check your LCD display, if it shows the extruder temperature to be 15C or lower, you WILL get a mintemp error...

if the lcd display shows the bed temperature to be higher (match the ambient temperature!) then there is a difference

check that you have the hot end thermistor properly plugged in to the einsy (correct socket)
if the fault persists, check the resistance of the thermistor, it should be about 100K ohms at room temperature

if the fault persists you could temporarily swap the plugs for the bed thermistor and the hot end thermistor see if the LCD display changes.

if the bed thermometer in the hot end socket shows room temperature, but the hot end thermistor doesn't then you are looking at an issue with the hot end thermistor,

MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE THERMISTORS BACK WHERE THEY BELONG!!!!

if neither thermistor shows the correct temperature in the hotend thermistor socket, it's either the wrong socket, or the einsy is faulty!

Re: MINTEMP

The original Prusa Mk3 does not use a PT100 temperature sensor, under normal conditions.

(advanced users can modify the setup and firmware to manage higher temperatures)

the standard sensor is a 100k ohm thermistor

(For us stoopid Americans, that is 59F. 😉 )
So if the ambient room temperature is in the 50's (Fahrenheit) will the heated bed give off enough heat (home the printhead and turn on the bed) to warm the extruder up enough to get past the 15C threshold? Or is the bed prevented from heating if the extruder is experiencing MINTEMP?

Re: MINTEMP

Hi Christopher,

I understand that both are set to error below 15C / 59F

Can't remember who it was, but someone said they take a cup of coffee into the work room, turn the printer on, raise the extruder to about 150mm,

move the extruder to slightly left of centre, and the heat bed to centre, then rest the coffee cup on the heatbed under the extruder,

He reckoned this heated both the extruder and the heatbed to above 15C very quickly, and then the printer would heat without mintemp errors

regards Joan
