Looking for local help. Tampa area US

I had a mk2. Bought a mk3. Printing was awesome...then it wasn’t. My first layer on a big print didn’t stick and a ball of plastic covered my extruder. I was able to solder the sensor wires back together. Worked for a while though I noticed my first layers were a bit rough. Then it happened again, and worse. At this point it was clear I needed a new hot end. I was waiting on the mmu install, but thought this would be the time. I rebuilt the upgraded extruder body. Powered on and the hot end test failed. It seems that the sensor is working, but the heater is not. I tried heating my old hot end, and it didn’t heat either. With so much attaching and removal of the sensor wires, the male plastic portion is gone. The female portion separated from the Einsy board. I’m nearly certain that power is not getting to the hot end. So now I’m left with a broken hot end, a brand new hot end without a male adapter, a suspect Einsy board. I have a fairly decent mechanical aptitude, but this was just frustrating and a series of failure. I found a place in California willing to help fix it, but it’s expensive to ship. I am wondering if there is a small business/someone looking to make a few bucks in FL that is willing to try to repair. I’m otherwise looking at $1000 for a new one.

Well, in the worst case a new Einsy and a new hotend would be 200 bucks.

But do not give up yet! I would order a new thermistor and hotend heating element - at Prusa or an American seller who sells MK3 compatible stuff - sorry no expert regarding US stores, but I know there are some.

Then I would take the EINSY out of the case and asses the damage - if there is any. The molex connectors can all be ordered easily. Replacement should be possible - even the ones soldered to the board.

Thank you. I have joined. Did some troubleshooting last evening and it seems there is no power coming from the hot end pins. It’s going to be interesting trying to repair that. But I guess I’m like a month past warranty, and have nothing to lose. After a really frustrating series of experiences with web chat, it’s cool to see a discord channel that may be able to help.

If there's no power coming from the hot end pins on the einsy, you may have shorted something with the soldering repairs on the hotend side. Check the fuses - they should be relatively simple to replace. If it's just a blown fuse, replace it, and your *new* hotend may work just fine.

Who are you on the discord? I am stahlfabrik - obviously.

The user above me made an important point: You should never solder at the hotend! It is too hot. If a cable breaks, the heater or termistor has to be swapped out for a new one.

I like the idea that a fuse might have blown. Sounds highly likely.

I heard you can buy new fuse at automotive stores.
