Live Z offset seems fine until I print.

Hello,

I recently switch to a satin build sheet.  I performed the "Live Z Adjust" calibration step on "Satin 1".  The calibration is set to -1.350 and it looks great.

I have attempted to print on "Satin 1" several times with several different files and they all seem to start printing too high.  This is the bottom of one of these prints.

First Layer

This is on a MKS3+ with firmware 3.11.0-4955

That seems odd. Download the files and print the appropriate material square from the ‘Life Adjust Z - my way’ post by Jeff Jordan here:

This will print a 75 mm x 75 mm square at a single 0.2 mm layer height. You should quickly see if the layer goes down properly, as in your calibration, or if it’s too high. 

If it’s too high, adjust your live Z to lower it back to where it should be. Try printing your file again and see what your first layer looks like.

This has been a strange trip.  It turns out the Z adjustment was too high.  It was a convoluted path to get to that conclusion and not an issue I have had with either the smooth PEI sheet or the textured PEI.  In the end, the Z offset ended up being -1570um vs -1200um for the smooth PEI sheet.

Thank you for suggesting the "Life Adjust Z - my way" it was a help in figuring out the issue.

Smooth PEI build plate, has a layer of adhesive and a layer of pei, on top of the spring steel sheet, where as the Silk build plate only has a thin layer of PEI Powder coat, on top of the spring steel sheet. 

the Pinda ? Spinda senses the spring steel, and live adjust Z then allows you to establish the correct gap between the sprint steel and the nozzle to achieve a smooth first layer. 

the smooth PEI takes up more of the gap between the Pinda / spinda, than the silk, or textured pei will take up, so the Live Z does not need to got as far down with the smooth pei as it does with the Silk or textured PEI, to achieve the desired first layer quality.

You can setup sheet profiles with the appropriate Z offset in the LCD menus so you don’t have to change Z height when you switch build sheets.
