Listen to the video, X/Y-Axis droning

IMG_5372

I'm not sure how to add video, I hope you guys are able to view or download it.

I bought this MK3S+ Kit brand new and installed it just last month. I took my time to build it, about 72 hours, to make sure everything is perfect. However, I still cant solve the noisy X/Y-axis droning sound. I even put lots of lubricant on the smooth road and bearings too. It doesnt go away.

Please any help is appreciated.

My printers are similar, and the best thing I did to reduce the sound was to print out the noise isolating feet, which you print out and put on the bottom of the printer.  They did more to reduce noise for me than putting my printers on stone bricks with padding underneath.  Here's the link, print them following the suggestions given.  I used PETG, but PLA would probably also do a similar job (although I could be wrong here).

Reduce resonance transmission, or change your motors out

You can make most of the noise go away by just printing and installing a set of squash ball or sorbothane feet.    I have a mk3s on a folding work table stand (very popular brand) - and when I first got it I could hear the motors from outside of my house.  It wasn't the motors that were noisy.  It was the house and table that were amplifying the noise that the motors make via a thing called resonance.  Think of the example of a violin or guitar - the string vibrates but it is nearly in-audible, a rediculous medium for making music.  But add a resonance box around the string and you have a loud instrument that can be heard from across a room.  The same is true with these motors.  They are nearly silent - but they make a peculiar vibration that when installed in a house-sized resonance chamber will become the thing that makes your spouse or house mate upset about "that damn noise".

So print some squash ball feet and be done with it.  If that is still not enough, do the Moons drop in replacement (it'll cost you about a hundred bucks with the shipping charge) - those are about half the vibration of the jack-hammers that ship with the prusa.

RE: Listen to the video, X/Y-Axis droning

what is your readings on the support menu for the XYZ calibration and your Belt Status , out of interest , as I also recently just built my mk3s+ ,
So couple of issues I had

1. the table it was on was not completely level , so needed to correct that

2.  some screws where loose on my y Axis connected to the frame

3. My Belts tension on the X ax was below 240, which I corrected now both the X and Y axis belts are about 268

4. I lubricated the bearings

Also check the Y axis bearings if they are not to tight

Thank you for all the solutions. I guess some sort of damper is the only way. Is this an ongoing issue Prusa is trying to fix? Don't get my wrong, i got myself a wonderful printer. Been printing with this nonstop. Easily replacing my other $2k+ printer.
