Leeching Power From Einsy Rambo?

Hi

I am considering of adding a small strip of white led, the same way that I do for my mk2 last time. But the led strip on mk2 were connected directly to the 12v main psu not from the rambo board because the led is 12v powered and also only has 3 leds.

I have a 3v cob type/filament type led and I am considering to leech from einsy rambo pinouts that able to provide about 5v or similar then I will add in voltage divider on it. At least that was the plan.

I needed the lights to see the printout quality and outcome especially when printing with dark coloured filaments.

Any helps would be greatly appreciated.

I would buy a buck converter to take the 24v from the PSU and bring it down to the needed 3v. There are many examples on Amazon, here is one..

I never thought of using buck converter yet as I need to order them like you said. I do however, a boost/buck converter but their output range are highly dependent from the input. For example input of 4.2v (lithium ion battery pack) can be boost up until around 9v only. Basically didn't do what it was advertised. It is an adjustable one though.

What about using voltage divider from 24v to 3v? I did thought about voltage divider directly from the psu but I'm unsure how well the resistor able to hold back

I'd be careful that you don't overload the PSU -- it's already on the edge of power requirements (read the long thread on failed PSUs).

I read a bit of the filament led, the power consumed from the filament led is just about 50mA and there's about 5 led embedded inside it. But initial test it is quite bright running from a normal 3v alkaline battery.

But still concerned about the system's health

It sounds like the LED module has 5 LEDs in parallel with 10mA running through each LED. It would be better to find a slightly different LED module with the LEDs wired in series with 10mA powering all of them. It would require 12V or higher, which is great because you already have a 24V supply. You would need to add a series resistor to limit the current to 10mA or less.

What is the spec on the LED that you are currently using?

Hi,

Here is the led that I purchased https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mabor-5Pcs-Set-In-series-COB-LED-1W-DC12V-130LM-Filament-Bulb-Candle-Light-Source-Accessaries/32836706233.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dKcdLFi
