Large foot print have layer shift
Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble lately with layer shifting, mainly on the y axis. I have my printer Prusa mk3 for 5 months now and just recently I had a few prints with large footprint. I experienced a few times of layer shift and it's always the same symptoms, it happens after around 1cm height, and after doing bridging on top of holes. I checked the y belt tension and it's OK(280), it happened on silenced mode (crash detection off)
And also on normal mode. It's really frustrated since I have alot of design projects for college courses. I'm on slic3r 1.4.2 and the latest printer firmware.
I saw that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue, but I can't find a solution, just assumptions.
Any help would be appreciated.

how are your shafts? I had to move mine around (chinese fire drill style) after like 3-4 months of non stop printing. see if they are still smooth.

I'm not home at the moment but I'm pretty sure they are fine I cleaned them a few weeks ago. By the way I forgot to say that the layer shift is pretty big, around 1 cm of layer shift

might sound CrAzY but maybe rerun Z calibration. MAYBE...big maybe. but maybe you left and right Z are off abit.

I did a z calibration a week ago because it happened, but then it happened again on a different print.

I have had layer shifts before on prints that cover around 80% of the build platform when printing PETG. Usually that happend when bridging over infill.
In my case it seemed like the part was trying to warp slightly, which resulted in a minor lift of the corners of the build sheet.
I helped myself by using binder clips to force the corners down. I also increased the infill slightly to help with the bridging.
Once (probably due to lifting corners) the nozzle even pushed the whole steel sheet a few millimeters away towards the front. The result looked very much like a regular layer shift as well.
Maybe you can check next time if your steel sheet lifts up in the corners or if it moves on the heated bed.

I think you're spot on, it's really sounds like it's the problem. Yesterday on the a different print my whole bed sheet moved, and quite alot. Also the infill was 5%, so I think I'll try next time on a big print to use something to hold the bed sheet and also use abit higher infill.
What I'm figuring is that it's because the nozzle hit the print while plrinting so I wonder if higher z hop will help...?
Also I make my live z abit higher, maybe it will help.

check that none of the magnets have been dislodged from the bottom of the heat-bed; if they have they are probably stuck to something else down then and you will need to epoxy them back in their slots.
