Issue Unloading Filament

So I’ve had this happen a few times now. I’m unable to unload the filament without having to open the filament door and trimming a little fishhook off. This past time it happened with PETG, but it has also happened with PLA. While I can’t confirm, oddly it seems to happen more with Prusa filaments than others. Is this an example of heat creep?

I’m happy with the prints. No issues other than this.

RE: Issue Unloading Filament

I've had exactly the same problem and posted about it a while back. I tried various things but what seems to work the most consistently is to gently tug on the filament while the motors are ejecting it and it comes out fine.

I'm guessing that the tip is a bit soft and if you don't pull it out right away it cools in a way such that it gets stuck.

I was using the stock Prusament profile, so 240º. The printer was "cold" when I unloaded, so the nozzle temp was set to the stock 230º. From my understanding you want the tension screw to sit about flush with the housing. Is this too loose/tight?

Thanks for responding with the link. I thought I remembered reading it before, but couldn't find it. I may ultimately do what @RandyM9 recommended to do here. I don't own an MMU, but if I did I could never imagine it working with the filament doing this from time to time.

Maybe tighten it a. Bit so it's just in from flush that's sticking out a bit so I would tighten a little bit.

I didn't want to over tighten it, that can be just as bad.

RE:

It's probably the internal PTFE which is damaged/worn or not all the way in and secured by the collet. See: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mmu2s-mmu2-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/the-hook-of-death/#post-621626
