Insufficient first layer --> mesh bed leveling not working?

Hi guys,

I try to upgrade my MK3S as good as possible for precision. Therefore I built a bear upgrade and more will come.

I am following issue with since the original MK3S build: the mesh bed leveling is not „perfect“ (or not working?), eventhough I set it to 7x7, and I had to set the bed level correction on two sides to 10 and 20 microns. Unfortunately the bed level correction can only optimize four sides and not 9 fields which the mesh level correction would do. Is there a way (without Octoprint) to check the result of the mesh bed leveling?

I found a error of 15 microns on the y-carriage hardware. Does it make sense to produce my own high-precision y-carriage? That would be laser cutting, milling of the bearing holes and grinding of the whole plate (carriage) with a precision of +- 0,005 mm. What is the precision error of the heatbed? I checked the spacers and they are all good.

Best regards,

Max

Are you looking for the fiberglass or aluminum thermal expansion coefficients? Or the heat bed as laid out and manufactured (copper+glass+resin)? Not sure these are all available.

Also, how are you going to solve the PINDA thermal response issues?  The response changes as the extruder moves and it does affect leveling accuracy.

Hi Max,

Do you have a picture to illustrate the problem? Like 9 small squares printed evenly on the whole plate to see the first layer problem.

On which firmware version are you?

Did you try with a factory reset?

Without further knowledge, I would suggest to thoroughly clean the steel plate (sometimes residues can get themselves between the heat bed and the steel plate, causing problems), to factory reset and to run the wizard.
