How can we make the LCD less susceptible to static shocks?

I received my pre-assembled MK3 a little over a year ago and within a month or two the LCD stopped working, no idea why. Support replaced it for me which I was immensely grateful for, but I was still puzzled why a brand new printer would have a bad part so early on. Last night I think I realized why -- the LCD panel is extremely sensitive to electric static discharge. Mine is broken -- again. Backlight comes on, button seems to work, but no letters show up on the screen even after a power reset plus leaving it turned off completely for over 12 hours. I felt a pretty good static shock from it after a print last night.

Is there anything we can do (besides some external means like a static mat, etc) to make these panels less sensitive to static? Has this been an issue for others? What do you do to solve this?

Print the LCD cover with ESD protective material, maybe esd-petg.
