how and which "platform.txt" must be adapted for customized firmware

Hello,
this is my first question in this forum, because unfortunately I have found no answer and it was always only "here it does not belong".
I hope this time I'm right.
It is about, that is the instruction, to create a own hex file as firmware for the MK3, at Point 1. Step 3. is "modify platform.txt to enable float printf support:
add "-Wl, -u, vfprintf -lprintf_flt -lm" to "compiler.c.elf.flags =" before existing flag "-Wl, - gc-sections"
example:
"compiler.c.elf.flags = -w -Os -Wl, -u, vfprintf -lprintf_flt -lm -Wl, - gc-sections" "

Point 1. Step 3.

But can someone tell me which "platform.txt" (since I have found several) and where I have to insert this entry in the file?
I experimented a bit and now it worked, but since I have about 200kb difference to the original hex file, I'm not sure if it is correct.
I fount a "platform.txt" in "...\arduino-1.6.9\hardware\arduino\avr" is that the right one?
I have attached my original platform.txt. How do I have to edit this correctly?

Has this topic been opened here? If so I apologize and like a link on the subject.
