Hotend heater issues

I recently damaged my hotend heater wires and had to replace it. After the replacement, the new heater isn't working.

I've tried to run the PID Calibration and the self test. Self test fails when testing the hotend, PID calibration fails with the error message "Thermal Runaway".

I'm not sure what else to try.

And now I feel foolish. I doubled checked one last thing before comitting to buying a new board. I checked the fuses again. was sure they had not blown, but there it was, a blown 5 amp fuse on the board. Replacing that and I'm back up and running.

Have you put your hand near the hotend when heating it to see if it is actually getting hot?

Right, Thermal Runaway is usually caused by a problem with the thermistor in the hotend.  It can be a broken thermistor, broken wire from the thermistor or wrongly connected thermistor on the EINSY board.  However, a cold environment around the printer can also cause this error.

So check the temperature of the room the printer is in, it should be 16c or higher.

Check the connection of the thermistor to the EINSY board.

Check the fan hasn't been damaged and is blowing directly on the hotend.

If those are OK then you need to test the wires of the thermistor with a multimeter to see if there is a break in either one.

Room is at @24C, so not an issue there. 

Thermistor seems to be working fine. Termistor reports temp to board and wire test gets a signal across it too. To make sure the Termistor is working, removed it from the hot end and blew hot air on it from a heat gun. temp reported on the LCD went up and matched secondary thermometer.

fan blows with no issues

Tested the heater cartridge again. If I'm reading the documentation right, should have a resistance of 14.4ohm. it does
removed from hot end, told to preheat, used temp setting on multimeter to watch temp. no movement. no heat. reset printer.

Hmm, it sounds like the heater cartridge might be faulty then, I know it's new but these things happen.

Thought about that, and had heard they were fragile. Ordered a second one, will be here later today.

 

If that one doesn't work, worried it might be the EINSY board.

2nd cartridge has arrived, Has the proper ohm rating. Hooked it up and same problem.

so tested voltage going to the hotend, and I have no voltage going to the cartridge for either one. Does that mean I have 2 faulty cartridges?

Tested the EINSY board itself. When powered on and the hotend is set to 215 degrees, my multimeter reads 0 volts. I'm afraid that means the EINSY board is broken. I've got another cartridge in bound for tomorrow, but I doubt its going to work.

Tested by removing the wires from the molex connector and probing the now vacant ports.
