Horrible Z-Axis Sounds

Hello All,

My mk3 is making a terrible sound from the Z-Axis. The other forums I have read always tell the OP to post a video as it is generally a unique sound. So My apologies if it has already been answered. But please take a listen and let's put our heads together to solve this horrible noise. I'm sure it cant be good for it.

Here's the video:

Thanks for you helps!

Sounds like your z axis could do with some alignment tweaks perhaps. Also, perhaps change the support base for the printer (there are a few good threads about sound/vibration deadening around). I doubt whether it's anything more serious than that. I think most do it to some degree. Mine does but it's not particularly loud.

Good luck.

Thank you for you comment! I will try to level the X-Axis. I tried before I took the video by running it all the way up until it leveled out but that seemed to make things worse!

Also I do have the rubber feets on now but that might not be good enough.

Also, can you tell if the sound originates more from one side?

Yes I think more so from the right side and moreover the power supply seems to raddle.

Ah much better, after making the modifications you suggested, the noise is virtually gone. I can still hear it a bit but I no longer think it is going to self destruct. Thank you for your help tonight. 😀

What did you change?

I now have the same sound as your video sound appears to come from right z axis motor. Tried holding it in different pkaces to try to deaden the sound but no luck so far

Re: Horrible Z-Axis Sounds

Hello,

I used to have the same sound problem. What solved it for me was slackening very slightly the screws that hold the trapezoidal nuts to the x-ends. It is an alignment problem when the top of the x-end is not flat/perpendicular to the z-axis rods and threaded rods the slight slackening allows the nut to alight properly.

A long term solution would be to redesign the nut pockets in the X-ends to take nylock nuts so that even when slackened they will not slip and the calibration will not drift as a result. As it stands with slight slackening you should not losten too much.

Hope this helps,
Martin
