Heatbed temperature flickering with MINTEMP BED alarm

Printer is 10 months old, today heatbed temperature started flickering and sometimes developing a “mintemp bed” alarm for less than a second and then “mintemp bed ok” followed by “please restart”. I saw temperatures flickering from 85 to 78, 55, and either 0 for just a flash of time

it happens either while during the Z check before printing then after 30-40 minutes in the print.

I thought it was a 3.9.1 issue, so I uploaded the 3.9.0 version with zero improvement.

Any suggestion on what to check to fix the issue?

thanks

RE: Heatbed temperature flickering with MINTEMP BED alarm

Bed temperature errors are usually a broken wire to the thermistor.   I have had to replace 2 of my 8 printers due to a similar error at 6 months to a year.

I came to the same conclusion, spoke to a customer rep a few days ago and got a spare thermistor shipped to me under warranty (printer is 11 months old).

this was the 1st time I had to issue a claim, and I have to say customer support is very effective for this printer.

@fabrizio

I always keep a few extra thermistors on hand.

I also had to fight with broken or wobbly thermistor wires. The thermistor itself was never defective. For this reason I bought AWG26 heat resistant and flexible silicone wires and replaced the thermistor wires with these (print bed and hot end). Since 2 years now no cable is broken anymore. I soldered the wires and stripped them with a heat shrink tube. But be careful not to solder too close to the thermistor, otherwise the solder can melt.

could you please tell which wire size you chose for the repair? thanks

@karl-herbert

My issue is usually broken wires near the thermistor / heater block.  Never as lucky as you.

I have had good success with original E3D Thermistors, but I also use some I purchased from China in 5 a pack.  They seem to be equivalent.  You get 5 for less than 1 and I have not noticed a difference in performance.

I am referring more to the area of constant alternating movements, especially at the heating bed. Most of the time the cables are damaged in the clamping area. Of course the hotend thermistor in the area of the heating block is also very sensitive and will break quickly if you are not careful when changing the nozzle.

I did the same on my hotbed.  It continues to work fine after 18 months.  My hotend thermistors are the ones I replace more.

Spare thermistor has arrived and it was installed without problems. Printer back to work smoothly.

Good to hear.  As I said above, but not as clear, I recommend you have one bed and one hotend thermistor in a drawer for that rainy day when they break.

For the thermistor wires look here: AWG 24-26 or similar
