Fwoomp

You know that sound you hear when things go pear shaped? That's "fwoomp". Anyway, things went "fwoomp" for our Prusa I3 MK3 yesterday when what I was trying to build got turned into a big lump of melted filament. In addition another lump of melted filament formed around the extruder nozzle and jammed up the whole thing.  The label on the side of the roll of filament said it was produced by Giant Arm and not Prusa, which may have been the cause of the whole mess, or perhaps it was just me, or some combination of the two. Has anyone out there had any trouble with filament provided by companies that aren't Prusa or have had situations like this happen to them?

Thank you.

RE: Fwoomp

Usually when the bed is dirty and the part isn't adhering. The nozzle picks it up and twirls it around a few times getting a good grip on it, then wraps the plastic around itself a few times while also spitting out extra goo to include in the mess.

Brand is never involved.

RE: Fwoomp

Seriously - when the bed is dirty the part lifts, sticks to the nozzle, and the game is on.  Why people have a hard time accepting fingerprint oils prevent PLA from sticking to the bed is one of those life mysteries.  But soap and water (not alcohol) will clean and rinse the oil away.  Trick is using clean paper towels to wash and dry, and handling by the edges.

Here's an example of a bed thoroughly cleaned with alcohol three times (I did the cleaning, and I know how clean it looked): One wash with soap and water and the print stuck like a fly on flypaper.
