First layer / live adjust Z - very bumpy lines

I've just put my original prusa smooth PEI sheet back on in order to work on bed leveling (instead of leveling with my thekkiinngg sheet) after doing the nyloc nut bed leveling mod. I'm trying to do the first layer calibration, and the back and forth lines are very bumpy while I'm trying to adjust the Z height. If I bring the Z height up, I can see it not contacting the sheet, and if I push it down farther, it gets bumpy again. Where should I start troubleshooting this?

Here's a pic:

Could be intermittent contact with the bed (contamination); also looks like flow problems; but sometimes it's hard to tell without being there. If temps are correct, try doing a cold pull or three to eliminate nozzle issues and make sure the Bondtech idler tension is set properly.

try the method outlined here Many find it far better than the one that is in the firmware. I have a set of the g codes modified to use the 7x7 mesh at the root of each of my SD cards and I use them when I change type of filament or sometimes when I change color as some brands react quite differently when you change to a white version.

I ended up completely restarting with the wizard, and after getting through all that and the mesh bed leveling (without the z calibration error), it's looking much better!
