Firmware Compiling for Newer Firmware Versions

Hello, I need to compile modified firmware for an MK3S. I have a printer that the hotend thermistor stopped working board side, so I simply plugged it into an open thermistor pin and changed the firmware to account for this. I did this a couple years ago and have been using the printer just fine since.

Now I want to transition from OctoPrint to PrusaLink/PrusaConnect. OK, first hurdle is mandatory firmware check to even start with PrusaLink. That's really annoying, but I guess it is what it is. All my other printers updated fine and connected to PrusaLink fine except the one I need custom firmware for.

I fired up Arduino 1.8.5, opened the new firmware version, made my changes, and it failed to compile...

I have updated the board in Arduino to the new Einsy Rambo as it suggests (v1.0.6), still doesn't compile. Yes lang_mode is set to 0. I open up my old firmware (3.10.0.1) and it compiles just fine with the old board selected. No matter what combination I use I can't get the new firmware to compile.

So I decided to use the new method outlined in the readme with Visual Studio Code and all the various add-ons needed to make that work...but for the life of me I can't get it to work either. I think I have everything needed installed. I went through the readme guide 3 times starting from scratch and reinstalling everything and it doesn't make a difference.

Is there a video walk through somewhere on how to use this to compile the firmware? Or a more recent video on use Arduino? Everything I find is a bit older. Again, it works great for my old firware, but it won't compile the new firmware. Maybe I'm making a fundamental mistake somewhere along the lines required for newer versions.

Thanks for the help, I can't wait to get all of the printers on PrusaConnect.
