Firmware 3.7.2 upgrade failing

I'm trying to upgrade to the latest firmware (3.7.2). It successfully executes loading the first portion:

avrdude-slic3r -v -p atmega2560 -c wiring -P COM8 -b 115200 -D -U flash:w:0:C:\Users\csatt\Downloads\Prusa\Firmware\prusa3d_fw_MK3S_3_7_2_2363.hex:i

...

avrdude-slic3r: 250382 bytes of flash written

...

avrdude-slic3r: 250382 bytes of flash verified

...

But then when it attempts to execute:

avrdude-slic3r -v -p atmega2560 -c arduino -P COM8 -b 115200 -D -u -U flash:w:1:C:\Users\csatt\Downloads\Prusa\Firmware\prusa3d_fw_MK3S_3_7_2_2363.hex:i

avrdude-slic3r: Version 6.3-20160220-prusa3d, compiled on May 20 2019 at 18:52:49

Using Port : COM8
Using Programmer : arduino
Overriding Baud Rate : 115200
avrdude-slic3r: prusa_init_external_flash(): MK3 printer did not boot up on time or serial communication failed
avrdude-slic3r: arduino_open(): Failed to initialize MK3 external flash programming mode
avrdude-slic3r: Could not open port: COM8

For some reason it cannot use COM8, the same port it used for the first part.

The printer says that it is running version 3.7.2 and one print was successful, but another print causes the printer to reboot after calibration and before the pre-print purge.

Did you ever resolve this?  I'm seeing the same issue...  The printer reboots after the first flash, and fails to connect to the usb modem for some other flash during the reboot...

The same problem on my W7 system. After changing to a linux ubuntu 18.04 system the firmware flash with PrusaSlicer was working. I think there is a driver or other software problem with my old W7 system. I didn't want to reinstall it.

Is your W7 system your computer (Windows 7?)?  I've tried this on two different Mac's (one with Mojave and one with Catalina) with the same issue.  I don't currently have a Windows 10 PC accessible.

I assumed it was a printer issue, not a PrusaSlicer/avrdude issue.  Maybe I'll see if I can scrounge up an old windows laptop.

@paul-m27

Yes, Windows 7 Enterprise. I think best results you will get with a Windows PC (not Laptop). I did the flash with Linux, because my second PC has installed linux.
