Filament jam below bondtech gear

I had several instances now where the printer stopped depositing filament on the model. After checking, I realized that the filament started curling up below the bondtech gear. Unloading the filament would not work. It seems that the filament started bending inside the available space and then create a curve as the gear tries to push in more filament into the space around the bondtech gear and the extruder-idler.

I was able to remove the clog by simply opening the Extruder-Idler latch, gripping the filament with tweezers and  pulling it up from the nozzle (no resistance there, hot or cold nozzle). If I would later re-load filament, all was fine.

What could cause this? Did I over-tighten the extruder-idler?

Your right to suspect an overtightened idler screw, but there may be a few other reasons that your're experiencing this blockage. Any of these or a combination could effect the movement of filament throught the extruder assembly.

1. Bondtech pully alignment, if the pulley is not aligned with the bowden tube entry it is conceivable that the filament could twist.

2. Bondtech opening partially blocking the entry of the filament.

3. Debris in the idler assembly. Over time it is inevitable that debris from filament grinding or simply moving through the chamber, a visual incpection will confirm this.

Try a cold pull to see if the filament passes freely throught the Bondtech assembly ( at the same time, although not necessary, clean the nozzle.) If the filament doesn't push through easily, then you may need to check the previous points. If those are okay, perhaps you need to replace the Bowden tube in the extruder heatbreak.

Thanks!

How far below the bondtech gear would you say the bowden tube needs to be? Right now it's as far down into the extruder as it can be. Is that the right height?

This is what my clearance looks like. The PTFE is blue as you can see the blue Capricorn PTFE. This one is starting to show some wear around the top lip although it's not giving me problems right now.

Hi I seem to be having the exact same issue. How and where would I remove the “Extruder-Idler latch” sorry rather new to all this. Many thanks Matt
