Filament is stuck in top of extruder

The filament is jammed in the top of the extruder, below the idler.  Won't pull out or push through. Have tried heating nozzle but the jam is too far up.  Any suggestions on how to get it out.

Have you tried guitar strings or accupuncture needles to clear the blockage?  Don't use a drill bit. It will break inside the feed path.

Thanks for your response.  I have tried various things to push the filament out and have started to disassemble the heatsink so I can get to the tube directly but the filament is so jammed in the top of the Teflon tube that I can't get the heatsink out.

Ah well, got the filament unstuck. It filled the entire length of the teflon tube so I had to replace the tube. I reassembled the extruder. Now I have a nozzle preheat error so something went wrong in the process. 😣

RE: Filament is stuck in top of extruder

Just built a printer and everything work perfectly for the setup and test print.  Ran a print that was 150 minutes and worked fine.   Was 3.5 hours into a 7.5 hour print and the filament jammed.  I tried to reload and now I have a jammed teflon tube.   Any thoughts from the community at large about why this might have happened?  Pic is a little blurry but it shows the issue.   thanks

The PTFE is NOT jammed; that just happens to be where the filament broke. Follow the instructions above to clear it.

Actually this looks more like the filament sensor was off or not working and the extruder simply drove the filament as far as it could ...

Heat the nozzle to 230, push new filament down until it hits the old filament, keep pushing to force the old filament to extrude. Once the end of the new filament is inside the PTFE, close the extruder idler and manually feed until the new filament is extruding out the nozzle.
