Fan error on second layer

Hi,

Since yesterday all my prints fail with a fan error just when the layer fan should come in. At the second layer.

I made a self test and it ended with both fans ok.

I tried old files that did print ok before so it's not slicer related.

If I turn fan detection off the print succeeds but the fan does not trigger.

If after the second layer I go to "tune -> fan speed" it is set to 255 but the fan does not move.

Additionally if, without any print going on, I connect to the printer with octoprint and turn on the fan it does spin.

If, without any print going on, I go to Settings -> Temperature -> fan and I set it to 255 the fan does spin.

I have barely touched the printer from the time it did work to know. No nozzle changes, no moving cables, or parts or the printer. Just filament changes and that's all. I can see nothing wrong on the fan cables

Re: Fan error on second layer

What I would do:

press reset, then hold button down until FACTORY RESET option appears, do full reset

if that doesn't fix the issue, I would roll the firmware back

if that doesn't fix the issue, I would then take it to Prusa Support.

Re: Fan error on second layer

Move the extruder all the way to the left. Does the fan work? I bet yes.
Move the extruder all the way to the right. Do a self test. Does the fan work?

If not, get with customer service. They'll have a fan to you in a few days.

Or, replace the cable with some decent 3 conductor cable.
Or, both.

You may be able to build on the left side of the build plate. You may be able to jiggle the harness between the extruder and Einsy to get the fan to work everywhere. This is definitely the voice of experience.

Good luck!

Factory reset - memory wipe - new calibration fixed it.

A bit puzzled by it all but it seemed a SW issue and a SW solution worked so... all is well.

Thank a lot to everyone!
