Extruder stepper motor clicks when loading filament

I had to disassemble my hot end because it was completely covered in plastic after a failed print. After removing all the plastic, I reassembled the printhead and the problem in the video occurred. After disassembling the hot end again and another round of cleaning, I was able to manually push filament through the hot end (heat sink and extruder nozzle). However, the same "clicking" problem occurred (the video shows the clicking problem after the last round of cleaning).
The only reason I can think of for this is that the filament is not being fed properly into the heat sink. I don't know what could be causing this. How do I go about fixing this, any help would be appreciated. If more information or pictures are required I will be happy to provide them.
