Extruder slams right mid print, fails self-check X axis now, passes XYZ cal

Everything was working great and then mid print it leaves the print job and slams violently into the right side along the X axis where it grinds until I cut the power. I would not have believe it if not for standing in front of it when it happened.

I had upgraded to 3.11.0-rc1-4864 prior after experience the funking display gibberish on 3.10. I'll likely drop back to 3.10 or below once I figure out how to fix the X axis issue.

After inspecting the printer and looking through fail status I powered up the print and when through XYZ calibration which completed with out an issue. Thinking that everything might be ok I decide to run a small test print. Right after the actual print begin the extruder leaves the bed and again hits the right side. This time I stopped it before it had a change to hit. Right before I cut power I think I saw crash detection error on the display.

I again inspected everything and re-ran calibration which completed successfully. I then ran a self-test which ended when the extruder got 3/4 of the way across the X axis and failed with X axis length fail.

Can anyone give me some indication of what to check for? Is this a firmware screw up? corrupted memory? buggy software AND how do you fix X axis issue?

check that the X and Y axis move smoothly by hand when the printer is at rest, or turned off.

if you find the motion is jerky look for the cause.

your problem may be as simple as needing lubrication.

That's one of the things I check and it did indeed seem smooth to me. However, I put silicon lubricant on the X axis rods anyway and sure enough it past the belt test, the self-test and XYZ calibration.  That said, how does a printer pass XYZ cal but not self-test or belt test?? Seems like fuzzy logic :^)

But it's working now. Thanks Joan!
