Extruder Body Broke

Hi. Building my Prusa MK3S+ kit and I broke the tab on chapt. 5 step 7 when inserting Adapter-printer notch into the executer body slot (see photo).

Now the printer-adaptor does not seat securely. I suppose I need a new part?

RE: Extruder Body Broke

It is easiest if you ask somebody living near by to print the new part for you.

Not sure what you exactly broke, but that part of the extruder is usually for the filament sensor only. So maybe you can glue it back or even skip, finish the printer without filament sensor activated, print your part and make a repair. Anyhow, asking somebody is sure faster and better solution.

Thanks! I took your advice to continue with the build. With that mindset, I read ahead and discovered that the tab that broke off was holding the piece that the filament goes into from the top. There is enough pieces securing it when all put together so I continued on and think all will be fine.

Thanks again!

Yes, if that was the part with hole for the steel ball, this had twi functions. One is that filament moves the ball, which moves the sensor lever. It should signalize the end of filament. But it also holds filament in one place for the entry to extruder. Extruder moves during print and this could make some troubles. So as I wrote, print the wong piece and fix as soon as you are done with calibration. Moving extruder arround the print bed can influent the filament flow through the gears if it is not fixed.

Since that is the main extruded body chassis, you may want to see if you can get a replacement part before you get too far downstream.

Depending on where you’re located there may be someone nearby who can print a new part for you, as @milos-v suggested.

You will have a fair amount of tear down to do to get to this later. Just a thought.

Yes, looks like the filament won’t load. I will unfortunately need to disassemble this and change the extruder body chassis.

thanks!

If you already assembled, maybe it would be good to finish it and print the part. Why filament will not load? First, you have to disable filament sensor, without this it will never load.
