Einsy Smoke

My Einsy stopped talking to my Octopi controller in mid print.  The printer display was blank.  I opened the case and found the Einsy looked liked this:

It looks like the ATMEGA2560 and the smaller chip next to the U10 label have damage.  I've ordered a new Einsy Rambo, but would like to rule out some outside cause of the damage.  Is this the motor control region?  Could one of the steppers be bad?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

RE: Einsy Smoke

U10 is a big optocoupler. I think your voltage regulator may have fried somehow, sending VCC high, and everything that was supposed to get 5V ended up getting 24V. 24VDC will kill the SuperPinda probe too (ask me how I know), so make sure to check that when you rebuild everything.

RE: Einsy Smoke

Just to follow up.  I replaced the Einsy controller and all is well.   The cause of the failure is not clear, but the damage was wide spread: U10, a couple of motor controllers, the ATMEGA2560, and a damaged area near the Raspberry Pi connector.  That last could have been the problem by getting shorted by a piece of metal.  But I didn't find any candidates to do that.  Maybe just some capacitors contributing their smoke.

The Pinda was fine, but the display was toast.

Thanks for your help.
