dreaded extruder clicking problem

I have a clicking extruder. Have changed nozzle 3 times and adjusted the top extruder bolts numerous times. Have tried multiple filament types. Old and new. Any ideas about what else to try?

To save everyone time: Are you operating your printer in unusually warm conditions? The air-cooled E3D V6 hotend is rated to operate in 40C ambient temps. If your printer is in a hot room or enclosure, that can cause myriad problems. If so, open the doors and improve air circulation. If not, give us a bit more information to work with. For one, has simply slowing down to 50% using the front knob during the print made a difference?

I live in a residential care facility because i have multiple sclerosis. Its cold here, mid winter but my room is at a steady 20 degrees thanks to my heat pump

When the printer jams and stops printing, unload the filament and inspect the stub at the end.  If the stub is 2.2 mm it is an indication of one particular type of jam.  2.0 mm is normal, 2.2 mm is abnormal, so your measurement must be precise.

Does simply slowing the print down 50% help? Do you notice the clicking while printing any particular feature? Prusa's speeds for infill are very aggressive, and may simply cause the amount of plastic fed to exceed the hotend's capacity for melting and moving plastic. If you'd dial the speed back to 50% when the clicking starts, knowing whether or not it continues will provide some useful information. If it stops, you can resolve the issue with software settings. If it continues, there may be a hardware cause.

Yes, do a cold pull after a jam, and then measure the fattest bit on your cold pull...

The filament diameter test can only be done immediately after a jam. Filament unloaded at any other time is not helpful.

These stubs measure 2.2 mm. Filament measures 1.7 mm.

I got tons of these.

You probably have the PRUSA version E3D heat break. I explained all in my recent post here.

The filament shape you see, jams inside the metal heat break tube (can't fit into it since a section is bare 2.0mm) and the extruder clicks and no plastic is extruded (but the nozzle is clean) ....but then, in some cases, you can't either extract this filament since that filament clog does not pass through the PTFE tube inside the cooler, and you need to dismount all the extruder to remove the jam. Read my article.
