Determining model for purpose of firmware update
Hello All,
I bought a used MK3 (possibly MK3S) which has very obviously been updated to MK3S+. The problem I'm having is with updating firmware. The printer's screen shows MK3S, but when plugged into my computer with Prusaslicer running to update firmware, it shows Original Prusa i3 MK3 (/dev/ttyACM0) - I'm on a laptop with linux mint. Also, when scrolling through support menu on the printer it shows: 1_75mm_MK3

Firmware shown: 3.11.0-4955
So, my question is: Is this originally a MK3 and if so, should I use MK3 firmware update? Or, if it is a MK3 updated to MK3S/+ should I use MK3S firmware update (which is not working?)

mk3 has two bondtech door tension screws, mk3S and Mk3S+ only have one.
mk3 has a vertical laser filament sensir board with four wires,
mk3S has a horizontal infra red filament sensor printed circuit board most versions had Black surfaces on the pcb. latest mk3s had red board, both boards have three wires
mk3S+ should have a horizontal infrared red filament sensor, pcb with 3 wires
mk3S+ should have a Supa pinda with three wires, mk3 and mk3S have 4 wire pinda's

Thanks, Joan, but that does not answer my question. I have observed all of those details, and that is why I stated "...which has very obviously been updated to MK3S+." Because I did not perform the upgrades, and the decal is gone, I do not know the base model and therefor don't know which firmware to flash. The info on the machine seems conflicting: On the main screen it shows: Prusa i3 MK3S ready, but in the support menu it shows 1_75mm_MK3. From what I gathered it won't matter MK3S vs MK3S+, but basic MK3 uses a different version. Maybe I'm wrong about that? Also, not clear regarding how to select firmware version: based on original model or current, upgraded status. Really appreciate you response, so hopefully this will make my dilemma more clear.

from your statement for a very obvious mk3S+ I would expect you to need Mk3S+ Firmware from this page

Unfortunately, it is anything but obvious. After thoroughly reviewing the instructions in the MK3 to MK3S+ upgrade, however, I finally found that once you upgrade your machine from MK3, you will need to utilize the MK3S/+ firmware. Just posting this in case someone down the road is trying to ferret out the same info as it is not abundantly clear on the internet at large.

The firmware required is purely based on the various sensors that are fitted to your machine as Joan points out. So it wouldn't matter what it started out as. If you have the old laser sensor fitted then its a MK3 still as the MK3 firmware is required for the old laser sensor.
If you have the newer IR break beam sensor then its the S version from then on. Same with the new super PINDA. You are matching the firmware to the hardware.

If you upgrade an MK3 to MK3S+ it stops being an MK3 and starts being a MK3S+.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
