Burnt PLA and blown prints

My prints have been failing. One common thing I see is that there is a section of the print where the PLA is black / burnt. What causes this black / burnt area?

A picture would help. Burnt chunks on the print usually come from debris falling off the hot end - not from the nozzle.

Keep the hot end brushed clean and look for leaks under the nozzle.

Also remove the front extruder cover and inspect between the heatsink fins and heater block. If filament is oozing there, you've got a poor seal between the heatbreak and nozzle.
