Bed temperature with PrusaControl

I have a MK3 printer, and am using PrusaControl to generate the gcode for printing. I specify Prusa PLA as the filament, which has a bed temperature setting of 60 degrees. (It is my understanding the bed temp setting can be found in the materials_i3_mk3.txt file).

However, when I look at the display on the printer while it is printing, it shows the bed temp as 55 degrees. Shouldn't that be at 60 degrees? The prints at OK at this temperature, but I'm puzzled as to why it's different than the default setting.

First layer temperature vs rest of the layer temperature?

The temperature is the same at 55 degrees for all layers.

The temperature is the same at 55 degrees for all layers.

Right. So the resulting gcode is going to set the bed temperature to 55. Sounds like you have your answer. 😀

The temperature in the file is 60 for 1st layer and the rest of the print. Prusacontrol would generate the gcode set to 60 for 1st layer and the rest. The question is why the printer actually prints the 1st layer and the rest of the print at 55?

I am confused. You said Prusa Control is set to 55 for all layers. When you export the gcode it should use those values.

No, The file is 60, so I assume Prusacontrol sets the gcode to 60, but the printer display is 55.

Re: Bed temperature with PrusaControl

OK. I misunderstood what you were saying.

If you actually look at the gcode file there will be a line like this:

M140 S60 ; set bed temp

Does this actually say S60?

Re: Bed temperature with PrusaControl

Ok, I should have done that first instead of assuming....

The gcode sets the temp to 55. so that explains why the printer is at 55.
So now I just need to figure out why Prusacontrol uses 55, instead of 60.

Or just continue using the default of 55, as that seems to be working OK.

Thanks.

Re: Bed temperature with PrusaControl

Are you sure you have the MK3 printer selected? I looked at the json files and it looks like the MK2 defaults to 55. I noticed my installation of PrusaControl defaulted to the MK2.

It was set to MK2. When I change it to MK3, the gcode sets the temp to 60 degrees.

Problem solved!

Thanks. 🙂

Re: Bed temperature with PrusaControl

I had this same problem and realized I was using Prusament PLA instead of Prusa PLA. Apparently the setting for Prusament PLA is 55, and for Prusa PLA it is 60.

Re: Bed temperature with PrusaControl

If you are using Slic3r PE, and setting the bed to 65 you will find after running the file through PrusaControl to add color changes the bed temp is changed to 55.

Just open the Gcode file, right at the top look for M140 and M190 lines and change from the S55 to whatever bed temp that works best for you.

Generic PLA gets set to 55
PRUSA PLA gets set to 60

Really sad that the Slic3r PE setting get changed, but its no big deal to change them to what you want.

🙁 maybe prusa only wants you to use PRUSA PLA, which my PLA order has not shipped from them, ordered 02/16/19, today is 03/21/2019
Guess I will be sticking to Generic for a while, wanted to try PRUSA's but they can't ship the filament out sensors, and I placed an order with them, so maybe in another month or so 🙁
